Pampanga has taken a significant step forward in its recovery efforts from the devastation caused by typhoons Egay and Falcon last year, thanks to a generous donation of P1 million from Makati City. This contribution underscores the spirit of solidarity and mutual support among local government units (LGUs) in the Philippines.

The donation was formally acknowledged during the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council Meeting held at the Kingsborough International Convention Center in Guagua. During the event, representatives from the Makati local government were presented with a certificate of appreciation, highlighting the importance of inter-LGU cooperation in times of need.

Makati City Mayor Abby Binay expressed her satisfaction in being able to assist Pampanga and other LGUs impacted by natural disasters. “We are glad to be of help to other local government units severely affected by natural disasters. We are also willing to share our expertise and other available resources to support their recovery efforts and enable them to make the lives of their constituents better,” she stated.

Mayor Binay extended an invitation to the municipalities of Sta. Rita, Porac, Floridablanca, Lubao, and Guagua, encouraging them to visit Makati for benchmarking activities. This initiative aims to facilitate the exchange of best practices and experiences in disaster resilience and recovery. “The increasingly complex and serious challenges we face compel us, local leaders, to band together and fortify our collective strength to build a sustainable future for our people. As a certified resilience hub in Southeast Asia, Makati is ready to collaborate with fellow LGUs to share our tried-and-tested solutions and innovative strategies for climate change adaptation and mitigation,” Binay added.

This donation is part of Makati City’s broader effort to support disaster-stricken areas across the Philippines. Earlier this year, Makati extended financial aid totaling P47.5 million to 75 LGUs affected by various calamities, reaffirming its commitment to fostering resilience and recovery nationwide.

The contribution from Makati is expected to bolster Pampanga’s ongoing recovery initiatives and provide much-needed resources to rebuild and enhance the province’s disaster preparedness and response capabilities. The collaborative efforts between these LGUs highlight a proactive approach to managing the impacts of natural disasters and building a resilient future for their communities.
