Motorists using the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) will face higher toll rates beginning next week following approval from the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB).
The decision comes after TRB executive director Alvin Carullo disclosed that the next tranche of toll increases was imminent, supplementing last year’s hike.
“The TRB has approved the implementation of the 2nd and final tranche of the provisionally approved toll rate adjustments for NLEX Corp.’s consolidated 2018 and 2020 petitions,” announced the TRB last Tuesday.
The TRB further explained that after complying with the publication and posting of surety bond requirements under Section 1, Rule 5 of the TRB Revised Rules of Procedure, it issued a Notice to Start Collection (NTSC) on May 14, 2024. This notice authorizes NLEX Corp. to collect the new adjusted toll rates.
In a letter dated May 22, 2024, NLEX Corp. informed the TRB that it would begin collecting the new toll rates starting June 4.
Expressway users will soon encounter new toll fees across various segments. These additional charges are categorized based on vehicle classes and specific routes.
For the Open System covering Balintawak, Caloocan, and Mindanao Ave. to the north of Marilao, the new fees are as follows:
- Class 1 vehicles will be charged P5.00.
- Class 2 vehicles will be charged P14.00.
- Class 3 vehicles will be charged P17.00.
For the route from North of Marilao to Sta. Ines in Mabalacat, Pampanga, the toll fees will be:
- Class 1 vehicles: P21.00.
- Class 2 vehicles: P54.00.
- Class 3 vehicles: P65.00.
In the Subic-Tipo (Segment 7) section, the charges are:
- Class 1 vehicles: P2.00.
- Class 2 vehicles: P7.00.
- Class 3 vehicles: P8.00.
For those traveling from Balintawak, C3, and Mindanao Ave. to Sta. Ines in Mabalacat, Pampanga, the toll fees will be:
- Class 1 vehicles: P27.00.
- Class 2 vehicles: P68.00.
- Class 3 vehicles: P81.00.
These adjustments are part of the ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure and services along these major routes. Users are advised to prepare for these changes and adjust their travel plans accordingly.
NLEX previously implemented a toll hike in June 2023 but was only allowed to collect half of the 2018 and 2020 increases to mitigate the impact on users amidst the existing inflationary situation.
Additionally, the TRB has approved toll hikes for the Muntinlupa-Cavite Expressway this year as part of its second tranche of increases.
