City of San Fernando is gearing up to host the Education Summit 2024 on August 22-23, bringing together key stakeholders to discuss and validate crucial findings from the Year One Report of the 2nd Congressional Commission on Education (EDCOM 2). Themed “Validating EDCOM 2 Findings: Towards an Inclusive and Responsive Education System,” the summit aims to address the pressing issues highlighted in the report titled “Miseducation: The Failed System of Philippine Education.”
Mayor Vilma Balle-Caluag has issued an executive order mandating the city’s multi-sectoral governance council to collaborate with various city hall offices and education sector stakeholders to ensure the success of the summit. The executive order emphasizes the city’s commitment to assessing the relevance of EDCOM 2’s findings and adapting them to enhance the local education system.
The summit will delve into the current educational landscape in San Fernando, focusing on identifying challenges and opportunities, evaluating the need for local education reforms, and fostering collaboration among stakeholders. Approximately 350 participants, including representatives from local educational institutions, parents, students, local government officials, and concerned government agencies, are expected to attend.
Leading the summit are Dr. Lou Javier and Sonia Soto of the multi-sectoral governance council, along with Emilie E. Laxina from the City College of San Fernando and Karl Alfon Sta. Cruz, coordinator of the CSFP-Early Childhood Care and Development Program. Department of Education-Region 3 OIC director Dr. Ronnie Mallari will also play a key role in the proceedings.
A detailed report on the summit’s discussions and recommendations will be submitted to the Office of the Mayor for further action.
